FAQS about photovoltaic and solar thermal systems maintenance
What does the photovoltaic system check include?
According to Royal Decree 842/2002, self-consumption photovoltaic systems must be checked twice a year. This includes the following:
- Visual check: switches
- Visual check: disconnectors
- Visual check: differential switches
- Visual check: contactors
- Visual check: protection fuses
- Visual check: conductors
- Visual check: electrical receivers
- Visual inspection of grounding networks
- Mechanical testing of switches to ensure proper operation
- Differential testing: Simulation of a ground fault (indirect contact) to verify correct function
- Conductors: Insulation level measurement
- Ground networks: Visual inspection of equipotential bonding between all cabinets, receivers and grounding electrodes
- Measurement of the resistance of the protection (grounding) network (TELUROMETER)
- Anchor status check
What is remote monitoring and what does it include?
Remote monitoring of the photovoltaic system tracks energy production and consumption. It’s the best way to detect if something is not functioning properly.
ClimaProtec will notify you if we detect any anomalies so you can take appropriate action.
To ensure proper monitoring, your home’s internet connection must be functioning correctly.
A common issue is data disconnection due to routine tasks like switching telephone companies, replacing routers or disconnecting telephone cables. It’s essential to keep these connections updated so ClimaProtec can maintain monitoring.
If there are any changes to the internet access system, please notify us promptly so that we can reconfigure the communication panels. Failure to complete this reconfiguration will result in the inability to receive monitoring data.
Reconfiguration is not considered a malfunction and is billed separately from your maintenance plan.
What is a thermal imaging check and what does it include?
A thermographic inspection measures the temperature of installed components using a thermographic camera to detect hot spots.
When hot spots are detected, preventive measures can be taken to avoid future malfunctions, extending the life of the installations and potentially preventing fires.
Thermographic inspections are highly recommended for low voltage installations to ensure the safety of buildings and occupants. This inspection is included in the maintenance plans.
How are solar panels cleaned?
A team of two ClimaProtec professionals will handle the cleaning of your panels to ensure all safety measures are followed.
In compliance with occupational risk prevention regulations, we install a safety anchorage system for work at height.
What does a breakdown repair include?
Common issues are often found in inverter units, batteries, and electrical panels, usually located in easily accessible areas like the garage or attic, so work at height is not required.
However, breakdowns directly affecting the photovoltaic panels require work at height, and two technicians are necessary to ensure safety and proper repair.
To save time on extra trips, we bring the most commonly needed small spare parts based on the type of breakdown.
After the repair is completed, we’ll only charge for the materials actually used.
If the ClimaProtec team detects a breakdown during maintenance, we will inform you so that you can authorise the repair.
If a breakdown occurs after the maintenance visit, the ClimaProtec team will review the visit report and assess whether the issue originated before the maintenance visit.
Breakdown repairs do not include additional work such as masonry, plastering, painting or carpentry, among others.
What does the solar thermal collector system check include?
According to Royal Decree 842/2002, systems with solar thermal collectors with a rated power of < 14 kW must be checked once a year and those with a rated power of ≥ 14 kW twice a year. This includes the following:
- Inspecting solar collectors and support structures
- Implementing measures to prevent overheating
- Purging the collector field
- Checking the condition of the antifreeze and filling system operation
- Inspecting the heat exchange system
- Inspecting pumps and fans
- Inspecting thermal insulation condition
- Inspecting automatic control systems
- Comprovació de pressió d’aigua en circuits
- Inspecting the expansion vessel
- Checking water pressure in circuits
- Environmental quality inspection according to UNE 171330 standards
- Maintenance certificate
Antifreeze fluid replacement
If we find that the antifreeze in your solar thermal panels needs to be replaced during the inspection, we will provide you with a customised quote.
For optimal operation and maintenance, it is recommended to replace the antifreeze every 4 years.

What's the difference between the BASIC BUSINESS and BUSINESS 365 plans?
The BUSINESS 365 plan includes an urgent repair service (within 24 hours) 365 days a year, while the BASIC BUSINESS plan guarantees your repair in the next few working days.
What type of systems does the maintenance plan cover?
We have maintenance plans for the following systems: gas boiler, diesel boiler, biomass boiler, air conditioning, aerothermics, geothermics, photovoltaic system, solar thermal system, electricity and pipework.
Each system has its own maintenance plan. If you arrange an air conditioning maintenance plan, the maintenance plan will cover the air conditioning system you have included.
Can I create a tailored plan for my business?
Yes. All the business maintenance plans are tailored. And you can arrange for the maintenance of one or more systems.
What's the difference between preventive and corrective maintenance?
Preventive maintenance is carried out regularly to ensure that the systems are in the best possible condition to work properly. Corrective maintenance repairs or replaces parts that have caused a problem.
How often do the maintenance visits take place?
Preventive maintenance visits depend on the system and the applicable legislation. Please consult the specific FAQs for your company’s systems.

Does the service cover breakdown repairs?
Each BUSINESS maintenance plan includes a number of breakdowns arranged according to a prior quote tailored to your business, which includes call-out and labour costs. The material needed is invoiced separately.
Breakdowns are cumulative when you sign up for more than one BUSINESS maintenance plan. Let’s say you arrange a BUSINESS 365 maintenance plan for Air Conditioning and the BUSINESS Gas Boiler plan. That will include the total number of repairs included in the two plans. You can use these as needed. If a total of four repairs were included, you could have three air conditioning repairs and one boiler repair, for example, but breakdowns in other systems would not be covered.
Do you have a 24-hour emergency service?
Yes. ClimaProtec has a 24-hour hotline and emergency service. As a client, call +34 972 658 419 whenever you need to.
f I have a BASIC BUSINESS plan which includes one breakdown, can the problem be resolved urgently when I need it?
With the BASIC BUSINESS plan we’ll come and sort out your breakdown as soon as we can. This is included in the plan. If you want to benefit from the urgent repair service (within 24 hours), you’ll pay the difference between the breakdown included in your BASIC maintenance plan and the 24-hour emergency service.

The minimum contract period is one year.
Do maintenance services have a minimum term or cancellation fee?
All the maintenance services are covered by annual contracts, for which we offer two payment methods:
- Single yearly payment: the entire service fee is paid during the maintenance visit. If you decide to cancel before the one-year contract ends, ClimaProtec will continue to provide you with the service until the contract ends, and no reimbursement will be made. This payment method can be used for the BASIC BUSINESS and BUSINESS 365 maintenance plans.
- Monthly payment in instalments: an initial payment is made when arranging the service, and the following month’s payment takes place by bank transfer between the 1st and 10th of each month. If you wish to cancel the contract, the monthly fee will continue to be charged, and you will be entitled to the maintenance service you have arranged for the remaining months until the end of the year. This payment method can be used for the BUSINESS 365 maintenance package.
So there is an annual commitment to the contract, and it is renewed every year, but there is never a penalty for withdrawing from the contract.
Does the service renew automatically?
Yes, the service renews automatically via direct debit.
I want to cancel the service. What do I do?
A minimum notice period of 30 days before the contract’s expiration date is required. If notice is not provided at least 30 days in advance, the contract will be automatically renewed, and the annual fee will be charged accordingly.
